Land of the LOST!!!

Today we finished our unit on Dinosaurs.  We have learned all about dinosaurs from carnivores (meat eaters) to herbivores (plant eaters) to flying dinosaurs and finally we learned that paleontologists study fossils and dinosaur bones.  We learned a few song on youtube about dinosaurs: The Dinosaur Song and I am a Paleontologist. As you can see by the pictures below we went on a Dino Dig to end the unit.  They designed their own paleontologist coat, grabbed a hat and a shovel, and went outside to "dig".  How weird that my backyard had dinosaur puppets buried in the dirt.

This month we also learned the letters D, E, F & G.  We learned the numbers 4, 5, and 6.  We learned the colors RED and YELLOW.

We talked about CIRCLES and STARS.  We learned that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

What a GRRRRREAT unit. We are really sad to be done with it. I hope they had as much fun as I did! Make sure you notice their dinosaur reward chart.  We earned lots of stickers this month.  They worked so hard!!

Next month our unit is Animal Plant.  We will be learning about different animals from farm animals to zoo animals.  We will learn about birds and bugs and insects.

Arggggh! Ahoy Matey!

Today was Pirate Day!

Well today was the end of our Ocean Unit so we celebrated it by pretending we were pirates on a great adventure.  We searched for dolphins, sharks and other sea urchins (I was honestly impressed with their imaginations - it was amazing what we found)!  We even found a special treasure!

We are well on our way to learning!  So far we've learned the letters A - B - C.  We learned the B-L-U-E song (which can be found on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrMfOhv0Qm0&feature=related ).  We learned our numbers 1-2-3.  We also learned about squares (did you notice that their Hawaiian leis were made of squares??)

Walking the plank - heading to the sea!

Looking for that thar treasure

Thar she blows!

Sailing on our ship.  Everyone row!

Next week we will begin our DINOSAUR Unit!  Can't wait!  We are going to learn about dinosaurs and what it means to be a paleontologist.

Thanks again for letting me take part in your children's education.

Letter A

This week we learned the letter A and a.  The words to write those letters are: A - slant downward, slant downward and straight across.  a: circle around, straight up and back down.  This helps them write the letters "correctly".

We are also studying the ocean this month.  We watched a segment of  Disneynature's Ocean.  They loved seeing the whales jumping up out of the water.

We played a game (they brought it home on Thursday) about fishing.  The poem that goes along with the game is:

Fishy, fishy in the sea
jump in the boat for me, for me.
Fishy, fishy in the sea
what color fish will you be, be, be?

You can pick the color or they can, but make them tell you what color it is and then they can put it in the boat.

Here they all are eating their "A" snack - an aquarium!!  They loved it!

Dino Dig

Here's a fun activity we did back in September 2010.  After studying dinosaurs all month long, we went on a paleontologist's dig in the back yard.
